Crystal, one of the UK’s leading tour operators has published its annual Ski Industry Report confirming what we at Briton have known for a long time. Snowsports are definitely increasing in popularity!
The British snowsports market has just recorded one of its strongest periods of growth, with 7% more snowsporters taking a holiday abroad than the previous season.
According to the report 1.15m ski & boarding holidays were bought in 2005/06 showing an increase of 40% more than in the mid-80s. |

Briton Invades Utah Olympic Park with New Jump Surface SNOWFLEX USA, based in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, who are the exclusive representatives for Briton Engineering Developments in the USA, announced this week the retrofit of jumps and ramps with the top surface of the successful 4-layer Snowflex® system (known as Traxflex®), at the Utah Olympic Park, Park City, Utah.
John Bennion, CEO, and Rex Dabling, Park Director of Utah Olympic Park made a recent trip to the UK to meet Brian Thomas, Managing Director of Briton Engineering, and to test and ride the Snowflex® surface as part of their park development research. Their continuing improvements for the UOP is upgrading and offering the most advanced, high-tech synthetic surface for Olympic Freestyle skier & snowboarder training in the world.
“We decided to use Traxflex® to make the ramps more user friendly to snowboarders and novice skiers,” stated Stefan Berkel, UOP Pool Manager. “The folks at Briton Engineering in the UK and their US representative Dieter Sturm, have been awesome to work with. As a facility manager, I would highly recommend Briton Engineering and their Traxflex® & Snowflex® products.”
The Olympic Park crew worked hard and installed the Traxflex® by opening day of the Freestyle Training Pool.

Olympic skier Alain Baxter officially opened the latest Snowflex®
surfaced facility at Bearsden Ski & Board Club on Saturday 6th May
2006.
The new snowboard park, two nursery slopes and a new
clubhouse were built with the help of a SportScotland Lottery award of
£200,000 from the Building for Sport Programme.
The club’s
facilities now boast a state-of-the-art floodlit ‘Snowflex’ main 80m
long slope with jumps and a quarter pipe for snowboarders and two new
‘Snowflex’ nursery slopes, which compliment the existing facilities at
the Club. There is also a new chalet style clubhouse with bar and
catering facilities. The new clubhouse incorporates changing rooms, ski
hire area and a fitness suite.

French project well on course for the summer
Since the initial announcement made back in January, Briton have been working alongside their agents Envirosport SA in developing the slope in Nœux-les-Mines project in northern France.
Groundworks to the hill are now nearing completion and the first deliveries of Snowflex® and associated products have also been received on site.

The weekend of the 25th – 27th November saw the Briton Snowflex®
installation team in Madrid, Spain at the Fiera de Madrid for the Esqui
de Montagna, a spectacular event showcasing the best of what alpine
sports have to offer.
Standing out amongst the rock climbing,
go-karting and mountain biking features was a 300 square metre slope
decked out in virginal white Snowflex, ready for the general public to
test to their utmost. At various points over the weekend show teams
took to the slope and put the custom-built ramp and kicker to work,
producing a variety of flips and twists to impress the crowd which
gathered around the edge of the counterslope.
