Briton Engineering Developments are pleased to have taken part in the 4
Jours de Dunkerque event in Nœux Les Mines, France this weekend.
As
part of the celebrations Briton Engineering Developments, together with
the Halifax AKA snowsports crew, decided to show the residents of Nœux
Les Mines and the Pas de Calais region in France what freestyle
snowsports are all about.
Briton’s massive new Snowflex® slope in Noeux-les-Mines, (the first
phase is due to be handed over in June 2006), proved to be the ideal
playground to showcase the team’s exciting and elaborate skills. The
AKA crew included Wayne Taylor, Jamie Nicholls, Rick Tyas, Ben Wall,
Rick Campbell, James Box, Deborah Yeadon, Liz Osborne and Joe Tyler
(British freestyle skiing champion).
Although still under
construction, the slope is hugely impressive being at least three times
the size the average dry ski slope in the UK. The slope features 3
different sized kickers, rails, a half pipe, cornice, spines and
moguls. The largest of the three kickers which was in use at the
weekend is some 2.5m high and is believed to be the largest kicker on
any artificial slope in the world. Though initially intimidating, it
wasn’t long before all the team were hitting the big kicker with some
flair.
Jamie Nicholls, who at 12 years old is the youngest ever British
Artificial Slope Style Champion, was so impressed with the slope and
it’s huge kicker that he asked his mum, Charlotte, if she could take
him there every weekend.
Potential clients from Mexico &
Greece also attended the event to see how a Snowflex® slope was
designed and constructed, The visit also meant they could evaluate the
commercial success such events would make.
The whole weekend
was deemed a huge success by everyone who took part at Nœux Les Mines
including the towns’ mayor, M. Jacques Villeday.
