The rapidly installed temporary Snowflex slopes at the Metro
ski and snowboard show were unveiled to the public today. Two slopes - an
introductory "skills slope" and Quarter pipe (together 600m2 of Snowflex) were
completed yesterday in time for a selection of the UK's best riders to practice for
the show. The bustle of stand
installation and shop fitting was temporarily stopped as people were stunned by
the display of technical tricks from all the riders.
The show featured, for the first time ever on Snowflex,
a spectacle known as "Acid Drop", where skiers and boarders jump from a crane at
varying heights into the transition of the quarter pipe. Wayne Taylor, who came
down to the show as part of the Snowflex installation team, impressed onlookers
by being the first snowboarder to take
the plunge, dropping from 3 meters above the coping. Riders were expected to be
making progressively higher drops throughout the shows duration.
The riders making an appearance were chosen by the aim
series team and the media, with an additional three boarders and three skiers who
won their invitation at the Aim series event at the Snowflex slope at Warmwell
earlier this year.
